Library day

We had to run up town today for a hold item so we decided since we were going up might as well get anything that we wanted.  Jacob has just recently discovered that he likes listening to books on tape.  So he got a whole pile of them.  They have a hundred item limit for checkout and he saw it as a challenge.  I stopped him at 10 cause I didn't want to haul anymore out to the car.

While we were there we went up to the roof to see the beehives.  These aren't the greatest pictures since the window is in the way but you get the general idea.  We enjoyed watching for a few minutes.  While they were dissapointed when we headed upstairs to hear that they couldn't go out with the actually bees once they saw what they actually were Jacob said he was glad there was a window there.  I am not sure what he had been expecting.

This last picture of the clock tower Jacob took while we were waiting at the light in the car.  He was insistent that we needed a picture of it on the blog (Zach doesn't really care) so here is the picture.  He did get a pretty good picture.

It's here.

I am taking the boys to Florida in July for a week of Disney fun.  Craig will be out of town so Trisha is going with us.  We will also go to Harry Potter world for one day (I have been told you can't not go there) we can hardly wait.  Our package finally showed up in the mail yesterday.  Jacob has been wondering if with all four tickets he can stay for longer by himself, I guess he feels when it comes to Disneyworld it is every man for himself.

So the countdown begins.

cushions

One of the grandkids favorite things at my parents is these great big cushions.  They can entertain themselves with or on them for hours.  This is how Jacob chose to use them the last time that we were over.  He stuck his feet through the straps and then tried to walk with them on.  Turned out it was harder then he thought that it would be.

He spent more time on the ground after falling down then up walking around.

library day

Yesterday was library day and I wasn't planning on taking any pictures there but we discovered something that we hadn't last week. Well you know Jacob he loves having his picture taken so he begged and begged and since I am trying to reinforce for him that begging pays off I gave in. Yep I know a bad habit I am trying to break in both of us as you can see it isn't going as well as the experts would want oh well.  Zach just rolled his eyes to all of this and said he didn't want to be in the pictures this time.

Happy reading everyone.

Wrapping presents?

Ok so if you get a gift from our house and Jacob has wrapped it you can know that he uses all of his appendages to wrap them.  I walked in while he was wrapping this and was glad that my camera was sitting close by.

Topaz

So I almost forgot the most important product our outing yesterday.  The whole reason for going.  The topaz here is some of it they still need to be cleaned up, but this is some of what we collected.

Eureka!

On our way from topaz mountain back to Eureka we saw some antelope.

These are some of the buildings on main street.

I thought that this one was funny there is plexiglass in the windows but nothing behind the front of the building it is all open.

This train car is also on main street.

I offered this as a summer house for the boys.  They said no.

This is the Tintic Goldminer's Inn B & B.  We met Margaret the hostess and she was wonderful.  She took us on a tour of the home and told us all sorts of interesting information about the home and some history of it.  My Aunt and Uncle lived in this when I was little and I have just a few memories of it.  It was kind of fun to see it now as an adult it was very different then what I remembered.  They have done a beautiful job of fixing it back up.

After a tour of the house she told us that we could go back up and walk around the old mine.  This is a look at where we were heading.

This is a look down.

The fence had a no trespassing sign on it although she had given us permission as long as we closed the gate when we came back down.  Because of the sign Zach refulsed to go any further.

Jacob thought that this fire hydrant was funny since it had a metal flag on it.

Here we are back to the car to head home.

And Zach is upset that he left a candy bar in the car and he thinks at this point that it might have melted.  It did so he had to wait to get home and put it in the fridge.  And as you may have guessed he wasn't very happy and grumbled about it all the way home.  It was a long ride.

Topaz Mountain

We decided to take a day trip to Topaz Mountain.  Craig is out of town so while the cat is away the mice will play.  We took Trisha along with us she is a friend of mine from clear back in highschool.  Back before the wheel was invented as Zach likes to say.  Almost.  Here we are loaded up and ready to go.  And don't worry dad there was absolutely no eating in the car (no I am not crossing my fingers behind my back).

Here it is.

It was a long drive so first stop was a potty break.  Can you see the excitement or is that anticipation of getting to go behind a tree.  No peaking.

Oops.

Zach loved hiking around and was asking to go back as we were heading back home.

Jacob liked digging in the sand but thought that the stones were going to be bigger.

Here they are going up the hill.

And here they are falling down the hill.  Just kidding.  No children were hurt on this excursion.  I was trying to get a picture of all of the sparkling everything the sun hit sparkled which made it very hard to find pieces to pick up since some were just dust but they seemed to be the sparkliest.

This was one more look up the mountain before we left.

We decided to try and find a shady spot to have lunch.  We went down and around the mountain and this is what we found.

After lunch the boys took a hike.  Yes they are in this picture can you see them?

Does that help?

That should be even better.

This picture was taken right before the nose dive.  Just kidding no one was injured.

However we did see something interesting driving along to head home we saw this in front of us.  Can you see it on the ground there on the left hand side of the picture just before the car.  It kind of looks like a stick but it had a moving tongue.

Yes he was alive.  He did take off into the brush on the side of the road as we started moving after we took the pictures.

I just liked this picture.

And here we are on the long winding road home.

On the way home we did stop in Eureka for a quick look around and we got to tour an old home that used to belong to my aunt and uncle but I'm off to put the boys to bed so I will post those pictures later.

City Library

I got an email from a disney group I am a member of a couple of weeks ago and it mentioned different things to do with your kids in different cities across the country.  There were some good suggestions for Salt Lake, but one of them that I hadn't thought of was the city library downtown.  So today we decided to take a trip there.

The childrens section is the whole bottom floor now.  This first picture is the ice cave it is whole room with all these little benches that look like ice steps all over the place where the kids can sit and read.  This picture was taken at the top in the center of the room.  I believe that this must be under the water feature out in front of the building since you can hear water from up above.

This next room was called the attic and it was another room with a bunch of benches that the kids could sit on and read.

There were places all over with little tables and chairs and little couches where the kids could sit down and read.

I was trying to get a picture that showed how big this room was.  This is still the kids section and I am standing in the middle of the room looking down just one side.  I am not tall enough though or you would have been able to see the rows and rows of shelves.

This is another little cubby area where the kids can read only big enough for one maybe two.

Jacob wasn't sure why they would put a smiley face on the wall.

This picture was taken going up the stairs from the main floor (one above the kids section) to the second floor (young adults).  You go through a glass door to get to this staircase and then the same to get out but only these little fabric swags seperate you from the kids section.  It made me a little nervous to walk up these stairs.

Looking up at the boys on the stairs.

Taking a break.

We decided to take the glass elevator down to the main level.

Inside the glass elevator.

Just out front.

If you are in the area and get a chance you should check out this library.  We had a lot of fun.
