April fools day

Yes I am behind.  I thought that these were kind of funny for april fools day.  Sandwiches are bread, ham and cheese cut small.  Some sunflower seeds for a side also some cheese cut into strips and donuts.  The donuts were the biggest pain to make they are cheerios with a little frosting and some sprinkles over the top.

Jacob thought it was great and ended up eating everyones since no one else was all that impressed.  All I heard was funny what's really for lunch.  Oh well.

Candy bar taste test.....

The boys thought that it would be fun to have a candy bar taste testing contest.  I think they just wanted candy!

We bought 14 different candy bars I chopped them into bite size pieces and numbered them.  Then the tasting began.

They both couldn't wait to get started but it didn't take long before they started slowing down.

Jacob spent more time drinking water then eating chocolate which surprised me. He also wouldn't take anymore then a nibble off the end so he never got anymore then chocolate.

The result of this contest was that they both realized yes there is such a thing as to much chocolate.  They both couldn't wait to have the contest and it didn't take to many tastes before they were both getting tired of it.

The final results: they each guessed 5 right that was it.  There were only two candy bars on their that they were familiar with Zach's favorite 3 musketeers and Jacob's favorite Reeses Peanut butter cup and yes they both got both of those right:)

I still have a bowl of bags of candy bar pieces on my kitchen table are there any takers?

Who Ya Gonna Call?

Ok so I couldn't resist when we saw this car parked next to us in the parking lot.  Can you blame me?

Ok so Zach can and does.  But that is ok it was worth it and someday he will wish that he had been more willing to smile for this picture.  Well probably not.

What I saw at school!

Yes I took a picture of the board in the main hall.  And in case you are wondering he will kill me if he realizes it.  So shhhh.  We were there for the band concert the other night and I said I was going to get a picture and he freaked out so when he went backstage I grabbed my camera and snapped a couple of pictures.  hehehe.  He will thank me later, right?

Jazz Festival

We took the boys to a Jazz Festival a couple of weekends ago.  With all the excitement over the spelling bee though we got busy and I didn't post.  I did snap a couple of pictures there to post to the blog.  So here they are.

The kids loved it we were a little worried about how they would react but we shouldn't have been.  It was a lot of fun a great evening out and what more can you ask for then an entertaining evening spent with those you love.  Oh and by the way the kids performing were amazing they ranged in ages from jr high to highschool and they could have been professional they were so talented.

Regional Spelling Bee

The regional spelling bee was this past Saturday at Juan Diego High School.

Zach was very nervous so I didn't want to make him pose for a picture since he hates having them taken.  Craig got video footage of each of his words but I need to have him send them to me so I only have this picture.  This is putting his number on before it started.  He was number 1.  He wasn't happy about this since he wanted to be somewhere in the middle of the group.  There were 79 kids competing.  We figured close to a third didn't make it through the first round.  Zach made it to round 7 where he was the first one out since he was number 1.  There were 11 of them at the beginning of round 7 and one other boy got eliminated in round 7 also.  His word was mynheer (sounds like minehair) he spelled it mynheir.  The hardest part was this was a word that he hadn't seemed to have any problems with at home.  He did great I couldn't have even spelled my own name let alone any of the words that he has had to learn.

This is a picture of the 1150 words that he has been studying for 2 months he has spent a minimum of an hour a day working on these.  There were a lot of other kids there that had spent a lot of time studying as well.  They all did great but I was a little partial to mine.  And in case you are wondering most of the words were pretty crazy they were words that came from 14 different languages and I still can't spell most of them even after practicing with him every day.  He had it down to about 12 that we went over on the way to the school that morning so next time you see him feel free to ask him how to spell mihrab, vorlage, gourami, diphthong, sevruga, weimaraner, scherzo, gymkhana or blitzkrieg.  You know them they are those words that we all use in everyday conversation :).

After it was all said and done we all agreed that it was a fun experience and Zach is hoping to be able to compete again next year.  Thanks to everyone who has supported him while getting ready, all the well wishes and congratulations did a lot to boost his ego.  Thanks also for all the positive support for the great job that he did on Saturday.
